If this is your first time dealing with a word processing document, you might be wondering how to save the documents you've just created. There are several formats which can be used to save your newly created document, but there is a wide assortment of formats used by several different word processing software packages. Most of these formats are proprietary, meaning that they are used solely by the software company that created them and are incompatible with other word processing software. There are some formats which were created to be compatible with other word processing software, or at least designed to work when translated through a converter into the necessary format required for viewing. The .rtf format is one of those that are widely supported by most word processing software.

I really do love FileCure because it's so easy to use - you don't have to be some kind of computer guru to get just what you need!

Plug and play? Not even close. I spent a lot of time trying to get my new, so-called 'plug and play' scanner to work. I was about ready to take it back. ParetoLogic FileCure got it working and saved me a needless trip (and gas!!) back to the store.

I have to admit I'm no computer geek. When something goes wrong, I usually have to call someone to fix it and it costs me a lot of money. When my printer wouldn't work, a friend of mine suggested I try ParetoLogic FileCure a try. I figured it was worth a shot because I was going to have to pay for a geek anyway. I was so happy when it worked... and worked properly!

I figured the graphics card my grandson gave me was broken when I couldn't get it work on my computer. It turns out that I just didn't have the right driver. ParetoLogic FileCure got it workin.

Hello FileCure folks:
I can't thank you enough for this great product. I just bought a new Vista machine and had been having all kinds of problems. First it was my screen and once I got that fixed it was the printer . Finally, my son suggested I try your product. It worked great and continues to keep my computer working. Thanks you.

I hate paying a lot of money for anything. That's why I buy mostly used computer equipment. Last week I thought I got taken when I bought a scanner. It just would not work. ParetoLogic Driver Cure got it working. With the updates, it makes sure my stuff will keep working and that I don't have to pay more money.

I work at a school so my mom thinks I am some kind of computer whiz. I have wasted so much time trying to get her stuff to work. Our IT guy suggested I try ParetoLogic FileCure. It has been a godsend and has saved me a lot of wasted hours. My mom and I can't thank you enough.

My wife bought me a new Vista system, and ever since I have had problems with some of my hardware. I saw FileCure, and decided to give it a shot. Ever since, the Vista and my hardware have been working great. Thanks!

I upgraded my system to Vista, and my printer started to act funny. No error messages, but it just wasn't working quite right. I read that drivers could sometimes be the problem. I looked online and saw FileCure. After downloading FileCure, my printer works great. You guys rock!

RTF stands for "rich text format", a document file format created by Microsoft in the mid to late 1980s. Microsoft has retained ownership of the RTF format to this day and has included RTF readers and writers in all versions of Microsoft Word for both the Microsoft Windows operating system and Apple's OSX operating system. Most word processing software can read RTF files as well as save in the RTF format, making this a sort of bridge between otherwise incompatible word processing software. These programs include Microsoft Word, AbiWord, OpenOffice.org and KWord. Other word processing software packages contain some means of translating a RTF format file into the correct format that is necessary for that particular software. Microsoft's own rudimentary built in word processing software, Wordpad, uses the RTF format as the main method of saving a document.

The inner workings of RTF code are something that most people outside of the software development world will see, but it was designed to be "human readable", meaning that when an RTF file is opened in a rudimentary text editor, the text is legible and the markup is not all that distracting. Along with the raw text, RTF files that are produced by Microsoft Word and other programs will have those files contain a large amount of control codes that are meant to aid in compatibility with older programs. On the other hand, Microsoft Word's native format, DOC, is a binary format that has only a very small amount of actual readable text available, with everything else being essentially "unreadable gibberish".
The RTF format has a few issues that make it rather limited in terms of flexibility and expandability, as well as cause it to reflect its age. The RTF format has very limited formatting capabilities, making it unacceptable for presentations that require feature rich content. The PDF format is usually more capable as well as far more flexible in handling presentations that call for more complex content.
One advantage that the RTF format has is that it can be used as a virus-free method of saving and transferring documents. Other formats such as Microsoft's DOC format allow for the attachment of hidden macros. A virus can be easily hidden in a DOC file as a macro, and possibly infect the computer once the document has been opened. The RTF format does not allow for macros and other attachments, henceforth no virus can be attached to the RTF format file. The size of an RTF file is usually small, so there are normally no issues with transporting these files on a small storage medium such as a USB flash drive. The RTF format was largely created with word processing in mind, but it is also possible to produce RTF files with programming languages such as Ruby, Perl, C++, Java, COBOL and Pascal.
